After high school, I went to Napa College for a couple of years, then graduated from U. C. Berkeley with a degree in Geology in 1975. Go Bears!

I retired form Chevron after almost 34 years. No I don't set the price of gasoline. Don't call me about it. I worked mostly on IT projects supporting Upstream (the part of the business that finds and produces oil and natural gas). I have a lot of international experience having traveled to work on projects in Nigeria, London, Aberdeen, Perth, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Kazakhstan where I worked for two years in the middle of nowhere.

Since I retired I've been trying to fly more and have taken up photography.

Outside interests include desert trips, photography, flying. I've been going to the air races in Reno every September since high school.

School Story:

My fondest high school memories are of the desert trips I went on with the Earth Science club led by Al Lilleberg. I actually turned the tables on Mr. L. and took him on a trip to Death Valley last February. Good fun.

Being in the marching band was pretty much fun as well. Mr. Crane was also a great teacher.

Sheila, you are clearly the most active person on this site. I don't look that often but wanted to wish you a speedy recovery from hip surgery. Physical therapy is not much fun but is key to a positive outcome.

Dear Superintendent and Trustees:

I fail to see how naming the Napa Senior High School mascot "Indians" shows anything but respect for the indigenous people of the Napa Valley. We are not talking "redskins" here.

I grew up playing on the Indian grinding stones near and along the creek in the Congress Valley. I asked question of my parents and neighbors and learned about how the Napa, or Onastis, Indians ground acorns, hunted and lived. D.E. and Lucile Alexander who owned the property next door as well as the huge cattle ranch which encompased most of the actual Carnerous Valley, had the most magnificant collection of indian baskets I have ever seen before or since. As a child I was fascinated and later was proud the be in the marching band and play at Napa Indians games.

From my perspective, you are overlooking a great educational opportunity here. Wouldn't it be better to educate your students about the proud history of the Mishewal, Mayakman and Onastis or Wappo people who lived in the Napa Valley rather than to imply the name Indian is an insult? Wouldn't a true activist help educate the public and glorify the name rather than remove it from our vocabulary?

Hi Marcia. Long time no see. For some reason I still have automatic calendar reminders set that today is your mom's birthday. I'm not sure if she is still around but was reminded of the kindness she always showed our family. Particularly that she came to visit mom at the house more than once after dad passed away. I miss that place on the hill and some of the fun we had a "sixum" gathering there and your house growing up. Hope this finds you well and enjoying life. Bill

Hi Terry, Reading through some of the comments below I just wanted to add my voice to those praising your dad, the band director. I don't know that people really appreciate how good he was as band director. He was not just a good teacher, but set a high standard and led by example. Very few bands achieve the level of performance that the Napa Senior High School Marching Band did. I quit playing for a couple of years while I was at Napa College, then was afraid to try out for the Cal Band which had very high standards at the time. I think the 69 Napa band could give Cal's current band a run for their money. The only band kicking the high knee, pointed toe look any more is Ohio State. Coincidence? I think not. You may have felt awkward, but I think the rest of us had a great time in the band. Please tell your dad I said so next time you talk to him.

Happy Birthday Paul. Hope all your reunion celebrants are good after the earthquake this morning there in Napa. I'm not in the Bay Area a the moment and didn't feel a thing.

Many happy returns Mike.

Congrats Paul. I think you'll like retirement even if you loved your job. In addition to increased travel opportunities it allowed me to avoid commute traffic and crowded stores. Even though I miss many of the people I worked with, I certainly don't miss office politics.

A recent photo of me with the Cessna 170-B that my Dad used in his aerial photography business for over 50 years. I't my turn to take care of it for a while now.

This aerial is looking East from the Carneros district across the airport out through Jamison Canon to the Central Valley. They have flooded the old Leslie Salt ponds returning them to wetlands. 12/27/12
