Janice Brinkerhoff (Doney)

Janice Brinkerhoff (Doney)

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sister and Friend, Janice Lynn Doney went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 21, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on January 17, 1951 to Russell and Marjorie Brinkerhoff. Jan loved her family above all, but also gave her time and talents to the many students in Chico through her powerful teaching in Music and Fine Arts. An avid supporter of the necessity of the Arts in Education and the right of every child to experience the joy of music and art, she steadfastly fought for the budgets for Music and Art Education to remain intact throughout California, but particularly in the Chico Unified School District. Her many students, colleagues and friends loved her dearly and constantly expressed their admiration for her efforts and for her beautiful spirit and life. Her family was her most treasured and precious gift and her grandchildren gave her countless moments of great joy. Her husband was her beloved, her best friend and partner in life. Together, they raised three children who grew to respect and appreciate the beauty of living and experiencing every last blessing of God's gifts. They learned to love God's creation as Jan did, soaking up the beauty of the creek, wildflowers and birds in Bidwell Park. She taught them to plant bulbs to remind that spring always comes and gives reason to celebrate ¬ even after months of rain and dreary clouds. She taught them about the joy of forgiveness and the assurance of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. Sailing, hiking, running, biking, playing the harp, the flute, singing, dancing and many other activities gave her great pleasure and she loved sharing those moments with her family and friends. She is remembered as the angel she was and still is ¬ a loving grandmother and mother, a wonderful wife, a cherished daughter, sister and loyal friend. She is survived by her husband, Glenn, her children, Jeanna, Erin and Ben and their spouses, her mother Marge, her sisters, Vicki and Linda, and her beloved grandchildren, Hayden, Reyna, Caleb, Landon, Grace, Audrey and Abe. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Bidwell Presbyterian Church at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jan's name to AGROS (www.agros.org), MMI (www.mmint.org) or Bidwell Presbyterian Church.

Janice was one of my most favorite people.  She was kind to me, a person at the time that chose not to have many friends.  I can still see her smile, it was so warm.  I have been through cancer once and my wife twice but my heart goes out to Janice and her family for what she must have gone through.  She may be gone, but not from my happy thoughts.
